The ACG or Academic Competitiveness Grant

There is pleasing news for the ones aiming for a college career; but could not do it because of economical risks. Government grants will present the opportunity. Pupils can take college grants which offer money to compensate for tuition and other expenses during college career. In the economic climate of today, a college degree is worth aspiring for and the college grant provides you the good opportunity if you cannot afford it by yourself.

The underprivileged part of the society is given the Federal college grants. It changes according to the stream of study and the academic competence of the person. Disadvantaged pupils who can never dream of following academic tracks are benefited by the college grants. These are given on a semester or annual basis. In some situations, the scholarship provided to the scholars is not needed to be paid back like the Pell Grant Program which is a federal college grant. There are some checks to be completed before this grant is accredited. Each applier must be a US citizen, have a GED or high school diploma and must be able to win over their requirement for financial help.

The standard for getting grants is the fiscal background of the pupil. The federal government has made this a compulsory regulation. These factors are- properties and income of the educatee if independent, similar information for parents for dependent students – family size and number of members of the family entered for post-secondary establishments. These elements being widely various, the amount of scholarship differs according to the genuine need in personal cases. To get an idea of the scale of college grant, it may be stated that in the 2009-2010 school academic year, the maximum scholarship to be awarded is $5,350.

The ACG or the Academic Competitiveness Grant has been launched by the federal government in 2006. It is offered to students in the initial 2 years of post secondary study. It is presented to such pupils who have pursued an serious work load of studies in their final year at the school. This grant is of the order of $750 for the first academic year and $1,300 for the second year.

Los Padres Foundation, United Negro fund, are some of the funds that US pupils can draw the advantages of. Acknowledgment has to be made of the minorities’ grants. College scholarships are also available for women.
